- Abstract
The Colombian women Karen Cuero and Camila López come from the city of Tumaco, which is affected by armed conflicts. Despite the difficult living conditions and lack of prospects in their hometown, the two women are studying chemical engineering at the Universidad Nacional in Bogotá. They want to contribute to improving the situation in Tumaco through their studies. Although they come from humble backgrounds, they have fought for the opportunity to study through their hard work and the scholarship program of the Comboni Missionaries. The two women are exceptions in a city where many young people see no alternatives to violence, drugs, and early pregnancies.
