- Title
Gemeinsam die Transformation gestalten.
- Abstract
The European Union has enacted extensive chemical legislation with Reach to ensure the safety of chemicals. The EU Commission now proposes to tighten Reach as part of the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS) to improve society's protection against chemicals. However, an independent study commissioned by the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) shows that some CSS measures could lead to a decline in sales in the European chemical industry. The chemical industry suggests focusing on the substitution of substances with high risks and maintaining the risk principle. Dr. Martin Brudermüller, CEO of BASF, advocates for jointly developing a transformation path with the EU Commission to meet the requirements of climate neutrality, circular economy, digitalization, and CSS, and to remain competitive.
