- Abstract
Students learn how to write along with how to read in their first year of school. However, in the following years, reading and writing skills are handled independently of each other. Moreover, writing skills are often neglected. Studies conducted in recent years have revealed that language skills are related to each other. That means reading skills affect writing skills and writing skills also affect reading skills. In this direction, this interaction between sub-skills should be taken into account while developing students' language skills. There are many variables that affect reading and writing skills. One of them is the use of strategy. Reading and writing strategies are seen as one of the facilitators used to develop these skills. In the literature, there are many reading and writing strategies that vary according to age group characteristics, text type and activity purpose. One of these strategies is close reading and writing. Using the close reading and writing strategy, it is aimed that the students analyze a difficult text with a critical perspective and create a written product. Literacy skills of students who can analyze the text and use the information obtained from the text also improve. In this respect, it is considered important to include these studies within the scope of primary school Turkish lessons. However, it is seen that there are no studies on close reading and writing in the Turkish Curriculum (2019). In addition, the number of studies on close reading and writing activities at primary school level is limited in the international literature. While there are very few studies on close reading at the national level; no study on close writing was found. It is thought that increasing studies on close reading and writing will contribute to the field, and the literacy skills of students will improve by using this strategy. In this study, it is improtant to present examples by giving theoretical information and applications about the relevant literature.
