- Authors
Nasr, Ibrahim
- Abstract
Folliculitis is a common skin condition that can affect healthy people of any age group or any sex. It is characterised by inflammation of hair follicles with or without secondary infection, commonly with Staphylococcus bacteria. However, folliculitis could be caused by other types of infection and sometimes can occur without any infection. It is usually self-limiting and clears with simple treatment, but sometimes could be chronic or recurrent. This is a review of literature on its aetiology, pathology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnosis and treatment.
