- Abstract
This article makes a reconstruction of the most important moments in which the design-art relationship has allowed, and allows today, to build experiences of cultural, disciplinary and social knowledge of design. Thus, the different historical moments in which design has been exposed to the public or has been taught in schools and in which it has had some contact with art, whether with its creative activity or with the intervention of art spaces, are analyzed. From the presentation of technological advances at The Crystal Palace in 1851 to the conceptualization and reflection on possible futures, as media arts does nowadays, the constant dialectic that design has maintained with art is presented in spite of being a discussion of attraction and repulsion in which they dispute which exhibits the sensible experience and which the technical and instrumental experience, It is this oscillating and recurrent relation which allows to see of a more clear way that these two forms of perceiving and producing the world are so intertwined that are indissoluble and that, when it comes to clarifying the design knowledge experience, resorting to art may be its best strategy.
