- Authors
Banister, Emma N.; Hogg, Margaret K.
- Abstract
This article summarizes a study which explores the relationships between consumption and consumer choice in new mothers and how those choices define their identity or "possible selves." The concept of "possible selves" is discussed in light of societal expectations, changes in consumption, and overall changes in the balance of work and life in relation to motherhood. The article provides an overview of the background, methodology, and findings of the study. Issues explored in the study include pregnancy, breast-feeding, birth, and the relation of experiences of motherhood to prior beliefs or attitudes.
