- Title
A Time to Gather: Archives and the Control of Jewish Culture.
- Authors
Rutland, Suzanne D.
- Abstract
This article discusses the role of archives in preserving and controlling Jewish culture. The author argues that archives are not neutral spaces, but rather reflect the power dynamics and control of those who establish and maintain them. The article examines several key Jewish archives, including the Gesamtarchiv der deutschen Juden in Berlin, the Jewish History General Archive in Jerusalem, and the American Jewish Archive in Cincinnati. The author also explores the challenges of establishing archives in post-Holocaust Germany and the efforts to digitize archival collections. The article raises important questions about the role of archives in shaping narratives of Jewish history and culture.
