- Authors
MONFER.RER-SALA, JUAN PEDRO
- Abstract
The article discusses the intertextuality of the "Annals" of Eutychius of Alexandria, 10th-century Patriarch of Alexandria, Egypt (born Sa'īd ibn Baţrīq), with focus given to Eutychius' use of both biblical and non-biblical sources. After explaining Eutychius' use of the Arabic language, as opposed to Greek, in the chronological work, the author examines the patriarch's discussion of the Old Testament story of Hagar and Ismael. Topics addressed include the narrative structure of Eutychius' take on Ismael in relation to the Book of Genesis, Arabization, and Eutychius' use of the Christian apocalyptic tradition.
