- Authors
Calder, Lendol
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of narrative in the study and teaching of U.S. history, with a particular focus on U.S. history survey courses. Emphasis is given to the author's experiences of asking students to write a short history of the U.S. It is suggested that storytelling is an important way in which people understand the world, and that teachers should embrace the structure of stories while teaching students to examine metanarratives critically.
