- Abstract
Injury prevention is essential for football (soccer) players. Specific physical tests can be used to predict the injury risk. Reference values of these tests of youth football players at a professional football organisation are unknown. The purpose of this study is to determine reference values of the Single Leg Balance Test (SLBT), Weight Bearing Dorsiflexion Lunge Test (WBDLT), Bent Knee Fall Out (BKFO), hamstring strength test, flexibility of the adductors, and strength of the ab- and adductors. This cross-sectional study included 49 male youth football players from a professional football organisation. More than 40% of the football players had an abnormal SLBT. The teams scored an average of 10,72±3,85cm on the WBDLT and 17,25±5,5cm on the BKFO. The average of the hamstring strength was 5,44±0,89N/kg. The adductor and abductor strength were 3,30±1,13N.m/kg and 3,23±0,71N.m/kg respectively. The adduction-to-abduction ratio was 1,21±0,23. These reference values can be the first step in injury prevention strategy in professional (youth) football players.
