- Title
The Golden Age of Piracy in Nova Scotia: Three Case Studies, 1720-1724.
- Authors
CONLIN, DAN
- Abstract
The article presents case studies of three pirates active in Nova Scotia during the early eighteenth century, Bartholomew Roberts, Ned Low, and John Phillips. The author posits that the end of the War of the Spanish Succession in 1714 resulted in a rise of piracy when Europe's extensive naval forces were no longer needed to man its navies. The shipboard articles governing the behavior of pirates aboard the ships captained by Roberts are presented.
