Abstract
The article highlights the Davis Award, created by Darlene Davis in memory of her husband, R. Lowell Davies, at the University of San Diego in 1984 and was originally presented for Faculty Achievement within the College of Arts and Sciences until 1995 when it begun to recognize teaching excellence. Topics discussed include qualifications to be shortlisted for the Davis Award and the role played by Dean Patrick Drinan on the shift to recognize outstanding educators.
