- Authors
McFarland, Gayle
- Abstract
The article presents a brief history of the town of Frierson in DeSoto Parish, Northwest Louisiana. The Parish was created by a succession of divisions within the state and was named after Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto, who discovered the Mississippi River in 1541. Doctor George P. Frierson decided to settle in Louisiana when he and his family could not find a way to cross the Red River on their way to Texas. He acquired 10,000 acres of land, built his home and named his plantation Lakeview. The present town got its name from Frierson and his firm, the Frierson Company Inc.
