- Abstract
The article discusses the 2014 U.S. District Court for the Central District of California case Jones v. Chappell in which the court determined that California's death penalty (DP) scheme is unconstitutional, and it mentions petitioner Ernest DeWayne Jones, the state's post-conviction appeals process, and U.S. Federal District Judge Cormac J. Carney's claim about the randomness of the death sentences and executions in California. Other DP cases such as Furman v. Georgia are assessed.
