- Abstract
This article discusses the political and social situation in Ecuador during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The author comments on the political volatility following the assassination of dictator Gabriel García Moreno, with a particular focus on the series of short-lived political leaders following García Moreno's death. She also considers the social policies implemented during this time period, including the legality of divorce, women's right to vote, and educational reforms. The Ecuadorian literary production during this era is also explored.
