- Authors

- Abstract
This article discusses the influence of the social conditions of the indigenous, marginalized and urban populations of Guatemala on the local literature, specifically the works of Guatemalan writer Eduardo Juárez. The author examines the representation of urban poverty in his works, such as "Mariposas del vértigo" and "Serenatas al hastío." Also analyzed are the feelings of entrapment of the marginalized population due to the economic conditions that restrict class movement. Juárez's works are described as social critiques aimed at those who refuse to enact change within the social structure. Juárez's influence by the writers of what the author terms dirty realism, such as Charles Bukowski and Chuck Palahniuk, is also discussed.
