- Abstract
The article discusses the prion disease, called scrapie, a disease of sheep and goats which is characterized by the accumulation of pathologically folded prion protein (PrP). Scrapie has been detected in Hampshire Down and Suffolk sheep in Brazil since the late 1970s. This study, which evaluates on the PrP genotypes of sheeps in the country, has concluded that almost half of the animals could be classified as being potentially susceptible to scrapie.
