- Title
Ira Regis: Comedic Inflections of Royal Rage in Jewish Court Tales.
- Authors
CHAN, MICHAEL J.
- Abstract
The article discusses the motif of royal anger, or Ira Regis, in Jewish court tales. The author argues that the comedic aspects of royal rage as presented in the court tales provide evidence as to its role among diasporic Jews as they negotiated their identity in the shadow of foreign rule. It is argued that transforming the Ira Regis into an object of humor and ridicule resulted in a kind of insubordinate discourse by diasporic Jews.
