- Abstract
The article discusses a study on the differences between the local and systemic inflammatory and angiogenic responses after open and laparoscopic surgery was conducted in a patient with colonic cancer. The procedure included the measurement of the levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and interleukin (IL)-6. The postoperative serum levels of IL-6 and VEGF have differences but the angiogenic response in the surgical approaches have similarities.
