The article focuses on the intertext of the poem "Beowulf." It explores the intertext found in Old Norse-Icelandic skaldic poetry which deals on the episode wherein Beowulf's descent into Grendel's mere. It demonstrates how the integration of intertext into the reading of the episode will enhance the interpretation of the poem as a whole. The author suggests the importance of Old Norse-Icelandic skaldic intertext poetry provides new insight on the episode in Grendel's mere.
