- Abstract
The article relates the history of the Miramichi Folksong Festival and how it is today. The first celebration took place in 1958 spearheaded by Louise Manny and held at the Lord Beaverbrook Town Hall in Newcastle, New Brunswick, Canada. Songs are performed a capella and there was no elaborate staging. The festival had a low point after 25 years but experienced a revival in the 1980s. The event now runs for 5 days, with the first 3 exclusively on Miramichi and the other 2 days for a Folk Concert. Objectives of the Festival committee are enumerated.
