- Authors
Hicks, Ivan C.
- Abstract
The article discusses old-time fiddling in New Brunswick, Canada. It notes that a fiddler was considered an important person in the community and old-time fiddling was usually passed on through the family or community fiddler. It indicates strong interest in old-time fiddling which was influenced by Don Messer and the Cape Breton Scottish stylings. It cites the characteristics of good fiddling as perceived by fiddlers such as smoothness, good intonation and danceable fiddling. It suggests more exposure to old-time fiddling for young people.
