- Abstract
ESA is the largest organization dedicated to supporting the entomology community, drawing membership from states with and without LGBTQ+ nondiscriminatory policies. Inferring that ESA membership provides a representative U.S. subpopulation, approximately 483 of the 6,702 entomologists may identify as LGBTQ+ (ESA 2023). One of the network's first visible initiatives was to establish an LGBTQ+ gathering or mixer at the annual meeting, where entomologists were seeking to connect with a like-minded community of LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies.
