The article discusses the significance of housekeepers in Native American day schools established by the U.S. government on Lakota Native American reservations in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, and Rosebud, South Dakota, between 1880 and 1920. The article discusses the policies of the U.S. Indian Office, the responsibilities of housekeepers in the schools, and challenges facing remote rural schools.
