- Abstract
The article explores the impact of pugilism on the British army during the Napoleonic wars and features several famous boxers who died in the Battle of Warterloo in 1815. Information is presented on the writer Pierce Egan and the "Boxiana" series which had become synonymous with early-19th-century prizefight scene. The article also cites the prevalence of honour and chivalry in the pugilistic ring and describes the fight between British Tom Cribb and African American Tom Molineaux.
