- Authors
Walker, Christopher
- Abstract
The article discusses the use of the political doctrine of containment by authoritarian states, particularly China and Russia, so as to prevent the spread of democracy and democratization in countries, including in the former Soviet republics Ukraine and Georgia. An overview of authoritarian states' use of the mass media to prevent democratization, including Russia's international media company RT (formerly Russia Today) and China's multi-billion dollar international media broadcaster CCTV's programs in Arabic, Russian and French languages, is provided.
