- Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the role of Lon protease and inorganic polyphosphate (polyP) from polyP kinase (PPK) and exopolyphosphatase (PPX). It highlights the evidence over the formation of Escherichia coli persisters through the activation of toxin-antitoxin (TA) loci from (polyP) and the Lon protease. It indicates that the TA loci encodes a stable toxin which could inhibit bacterial growth when triggered by the alarmone guanosine tetra- or pentaphosphate ((p)ppGpp).
