The article reports on the findings of the study concerning the behavioral changes of Toxoplasma gondii infection of innate aversion of rats to cat urine. It reveals that T. gondii infection alters rat behavior for its own selective benefit, instead of decreasing the learned fear or anxiety-like behavior. It also indicates that T. gondii affects the part of defensive reaction important for the innate aversion to cat pheromones.
