- Abstract
The article discusses participant observation research at the plus-size women's clothing store in Los Angeles, California. Topics include the role of aesthetic labor in relation to service workers, the notion of emotional labor in relation to racial differences regarding body image, and customer interactions with store employees. Also noted are workplace discrimination against overweight women, the use of the word fat in popular discourse, and reasons for customer loyalty to a plus-sized clothing store.
