- Abstract
The identification of human remains in forensic cases is at best a problem, more so if the body is decomposed. Clues, such as dental records, are not available for many South African cases. This article describes the investigation of two murder victims, and their eventual identification, with the help of skull-photograph superimposition. In this procedure, the skull of an individual is fitted onto a photograph of the head, in order to prove or disprove identity. Although this method has been used in this country before, it is, to our knowledge, the first case that proceeded to and was accepted by a South African court of law.
