- Abstract
Introduction: Syphilis is known about 500 years ago and still being a world wide health problem. Objective:Describe syphilis congenital frequency in a Basic General Hospital of the Secretaría de Salud from Sonora. Material and Methods: A descriptive and exploratory epidemiologic study with 17 cases; the variables were registered births, socioeconomic condition, drug addiction, clinical evidence, positive treponemal tests, treatment and evolution. 17 cases were documented, 59% were from Caborca, 53% were males, the mean maternal age was 23 years old. An 88% has low socioeconomical level, 47 % had prenatal control. 2 mothers had syphilitic lesions. All the lab tests were positives. The treatment was effective in all cases and has a satisfactory evolution, prevalence was 0.3 x 1000 births. Conclusion: The supply of services in the care process of gestational syphilis and congenital syphilis, should include procedures for: education for prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring.
