- Abstract
Nosocomial infections related to Leclercia adecarboxylata, are occasionally reported. This organism is a Gramnegative, in the genre Leclercia. It was recognized for the first time in 1962 by Lecler, who named it Escherichia adecarboxylata. Tamura et al, in 1986, based on bacterial molecular biology of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) included it in the genus Escherichia, leaving it as an only genus and species called Leclercia adecarboxylata. It has been isolated from clinical samples, and generally as a polimicrobian infection; it is a opportunistic bacteria. Its natural habitat is water, food and environment; it is part of intestinal biota in animals. It has been identified in human feces. We present the case of a 9 month-old infant with nosocomial sepsis by Leclercia adecarboxylata in pure isolation (in blood culture as a unique bacteria); we discuss its possible implications.
