FOUR WEEKS OF SOUND AND FURY … THE 1987 BRITISH ELECTION CAMPAIGN.
- Authors
Norris, Pippa
- Abstract
The article discusses the 1987 election campaigns in Great Britain. Political parties such as the Conservatives, Labour and Alliance engaged in different strategies to mount a campaign that would turn in votes. These parties primarily have to reinforce their strength, recruit undecided and first time voters, and convert voters into their sides. During the period of the campaign, confidence was placed in the party that gave importance to social issues such as education, health, and unemployment. Despite political maneuverings by the Labourites and the Conservatives by capitalizing on the negative impact on their leader's remarks on issues and efforts on effective and professional campaign, the Conservatives had consistently maintained their lead and won 102 seats.
