The article discusses the system of vowels for words in the modern Armenian language, an Indo-European language, derived from words in use in ancient Anatolia, especially from Urartian and Hurrian, which are closely related ancient Caucasic languages. The author describes these words as a substrate with Armenian and identifies some not previously recognized as related to this substrate.
