- Title
Rebellious Identification, or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Arabella.
- Authors
Goodman, Lesley
- Abstract
The article discusses the concept of rebellious identification by reviewing Thomas Hardy 's "Jude the Obscure," a paradigmatic case of the term. It outlines two facets of the term, namely the emotional logic that exists outside of fiction and a relationship that is unique to fictional texts, between reader, character and author. It reviews several other books depicting the meaning of the term, such as Judith Fetterley's "The Resisting Reader: A Feminists Approach to American Fiction".
