- Authors
Rangan, Pooja
- Abstract
The article looks at the racial ventriloquism, vocal class hierarchies in films and a theory of auditory poverty inspired by the treatise "In Defence of the Poor Image" by Hito Steyerl. Topics discussed include the coding of accents as class distinctions and the complicity of the cinematic protocols of linguistic realism in reinforcing a vocal class hierarchy, examination of migratory voices in neoliberal times in the treatise, and exploration of oral differences in films by Katarina Zdjelar.
