- Abstract
The article presents a study which systematically estimated the impact of solute structure and exchangeable cation in an interplayed matrix on hydrophobic organic compounds (HOC) sorption to a domestic montmorillonite with and without the presence of a commercial humic acid at the dissolved state. It also explores x-ray diffraction (XRD) in order to characterize changes in clay basal spacing on human substance (HS) adsorption. It then discusses the relative contribution from organic and inorganic constituents and the predominant sorption mechanism for each case sorption process.
