- Title
Linking Synergies with Variability.
- Authors
Scholz, John P.
- Abstract
The author discusses an accompanying article in the issue by researcher Mark L. Latash and associates on linkages among functional synergy, the Uncontrolled Manifold (UCM) hypothesis, and the Equilibrium Point (EP) Hypothesis. The use of UCM and EP hypotheses to understand motor control and coordination is discussed. The author discusses inconsistencies in Latash's framework that he believes will need to be addressed eventually. Among these are Latash's use of the term synergy and relative variance measures that do not explain synergies among elemental variables.
