- Abstract
Soil water content is an essential parameter for monitoring soil moisture in Irrigated farms. The objective of this work was to determine the in situ field capacity by direct and indirect methods in the semiarid neossolo, under field conditions, in the municipality of Santa Luzia, Paraíba. The methods used were: the standard drying oven method, the electric oven method, the FDR capacitance probe method and the tensiometer method. The soil of the area is classified as Neossolo Flúvico type, with a sandy loam texture. For the determination of soil moisture, an area of 4 m² surrounded by a 0.10 m high dam was delimited and completely moistened to a depth of 1.0 m. For each applied method, three replicates were performed at 24-hour intervals over a period of eight days. The field capacity values, found up to the depth of 0.20 m, were 0.19; 0.20; 0.21 and 0.29 m³ m-3 for the standard methods drying oven, electric oven, FDR probe and tensiometer respectively. In the comparison between the standard oven method and the others, the electric furnace presented the best fit with respect to the field capacity followed by the FDR probe and the tensiometer. The potential model, to estimate the volumetric moisture in the field capacity, was feasible, but it overestimated its time of occurrence.
