- Abstract
The article offers the author's insights on the debate regarding the beatification of Eugenio Pacelli, who was Pope Pius XII. The author says that Pacelli bore a responsibility for the commencement of World War I and for the demise of the Centre Party in Germany. He adds that the beatification would signify its association with Pacelli's contribution to human suffering. Furthermore , the role of Pacelli to the rise of power of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler is discussed.
