Nesting in Australia: Indian Spy Rings Take Root.
- Authors
Kampmark, Binoy
- Abstract
According to an article in the International Policy Digest, the Australian domestic intelligence service, ASIO, has identified an active spy ring operating in the country. Contrary to initial assumptions, the spies were found to be from the Indian foreign intelligence agency, RAW, rather than Chinese or Russian operatives. The RAW agents were involved in gathering sensitive information on defense projects, airport security, and trade relationships in Australia, as well as monitoring members of the Indian diaspora. The Australian government took action to remove the agents, but the incident has raised questions about Australia's understanding of the actions of major powers and its vulnerability to espionage.
