- Abstract
The aim of this study was to describe the relationship between the load required by the school and the actual load transported, as well as to analyze the form of backpack transport by high school students in a city in the interior of Minas Gerais. The sample consisted of 71 students regularly enrolled and attending high school at Federal University of Viçosa-Campus Florestal. The students' body mass and backpack load were measured. In order to know the material load required by the school for each day of the week, the material to be used according to the school schedule was weighed. An identification form was applied, which the student should fill out, identifying the type of backpack used, as well as the mode of transport. To verify the normality of the data, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used. To compare the average of the actual load with the load required by the school, the Wilcoxon test was applied, comparing the groups by sex. It was observed that on one day of the week the expected backpack load was inadequate for students in both groups. In both groups the most used type of backpack is the one made up of two handles. Regarding the form of transport, transport on both shoulders had a higher percentage of incidence in relation to transport on one shoulder. In this study, the daily planning of academic activities foresees a higher backpack load than that transported by students of both sexes, in addition the form of transport most used by students was transportation on both shoulders, and most students use it. backpacks with two handles.
