- Abstract
The article describes the history of the pretrial services in the U.S. The services were established when then-U.S. President Ronald Reagan approved the Pretrial Services Act of 1982 on September 27, 1982 where the law fixes inequities in bail-setting practices and enables application of alternative stipulations to cash and surety standards. Reagan also approved the Bail Reform Act in 1984 to improve stipulations for post-conviction release and preventive detection.
