The article discusses the ecumenical and ecclesiastical difficulties of practicing communion fellowship outside of the denominational and ecumenical formulae. Factors contributing to the problem of intercommunion as a symptom of crisis are described, including terminology and the division of churches along social and generational lines. The challenges of deciding the criteria for extended communion fellowship are also addressed.
