- Abstract
Prestressed timber components in structural timber construction – experimental and theoretical investigations of prestressed laminated timber panel ceilings The principle of prestressing is frequently used in reinforced concrete constructions to allow slim structures or large spans. Within the framework of a research project, the principle of prestressing was applied to timber constructions and its influence on load‐bearing capacity, structural dynamics and component deformation was investigated. The anchoring of the prestressing forces was realized by pre‐tensioned concrete anchoring elements. The paper describes the theoretical investigations for the assessment of prestressed laminated timber panel ceilings, the experimental investigations for the development of concrete anchoring elements, large‐scale tests for the analysis of the load bearing capacity and creep behavior of prestressed timber components as well as investigations on the dynamic behavior. The investigations show that prestressing can improve the deformation behavior of laminated timber panel ceiling elements, whereas the prestressing had no clearly determinable influence on the static and dynamic load‐bearing behavior.
