- Abstract
Introduction: A pregnant woman goes through an array of changes in her body which could be anatomical, physiological, and psychological. These changes are mediated by hormones which could result in dental ailment or any pre-existing dental problem may worsen during pregnancy, requiring a dentist’s attention. A pregnant woman seeking dental treatment in a dental institution is not very uncommon. Although under the supervision of expertise, these pregnant women are attended by dental students and residents, the in-depth knowledge of treating a pregnant patient is questionable. Thus, this study aims to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of the dental undergraduate students about the management of pregnant women on a dental chair. Materials and Methods: A self-administered questionnaire was designed to evaluate the awareness about the management of pregnant women on a dental chair among undergraduate dental students. The study population included the dental students to whom the questionnaires were submitted. All students in the study voluntarily completed a questionnaire consisting of 10 close-ended questions. Results: The results showed that most of the participants were aware about the management of pregnant women in a dental clinic. Conclusion: A dental undergraduate student must be trained efficiently to treat a pregnant woman. In this way, the taboo of objecting dental treatment to a gravid woman can be prevented.
