- Abstract
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) in pregnancy may result in serious complications such as preterm labor and preterm delivery. Educating patients on prevention of the infection process is key to success as childbirth educators. The ultimate goal as a childbirth educator is not to focus on the treatment aspect of care but to utilize a best practice approach which underscores the importance of teaching patients how to prevent bacterial infections through incorporating best practices into their hygiene routine. Utilization of best practices not only decreases reoccurrence of BV in pregnancy but prevents potential complications associated with the infection.
