- Authors
Calhoun, Alison
- Abstract
The article discusses the writing style of 16th century French Renaissance writer Montaigne who articulated that his style is comique (comic) and privé (private). It examines the societal codes and the uncontestable best sellers of his time as well as Montaigne's understanding of the paradox of writing a new genre based on making the private public in his work "Essays." The article also notes that Montaigne's manner of communicating his private life differs from the traditional forms.
