- Title
Performativity and Gender in Alice Guy's La Vie du Christ.
- Authors
Foster, Gwendolyn Audrey
- Abstract
The author argues on Alice Guy's version of the motion picture "La Vie du Christ" that betrays a feminist perspective towards the subject and that performativity in the film blends spectacle and realism in an unprecedented manner. He views the film within a theoretical and historical perspective that highlights Guy's role in the development of a hybrid cinema embracing and problematizing notions of realism and artifice in gendered performativity. Moreover, the stylization of Guy's vision in La Vie du Christ creates an alternative universe.
