- Abstract
The last decades have registered an intensification in the relations between the People's Republic of China (prc) and the Latin-American continent. In the same way that in the context of the Cold War the political-ideological factor was the center of attention, nowadays it is the economic-commercial aspect that scholars focus on. Although the People's Republic of China (prc) and Latin America are going through their most dynamic period of interactions so far, it is prudent to study their history in order to understand the complex dynamics of their current relationship. It is also important to understand that these relationships have been built upon multiple dimensions, a fact that is rarely presented in academic studies. The article intends to illustrate the multiple dimensions and history of the interactions between the prc and Latin America during the twentieth century through a comparative analysis of Chinese-Chilean, Colombian, and Peruvian relations. The study of these interactions is based on the unpublished archives of Robert L. Worden, an American sinologist who recorded the prc's presence in Latin America in detail during that period.
